Proces od designing an experience for users of platform

User experience or UX is how a user interacts with a particular product, system, or service. Simply speaking UX Experience Design is a design process whose aim is to design a system that offers a great experience to the users.

Experience design definition

Experience design means that people use their experiences to design products and strategies. It plays a very important role in the growth of any business. A company’s website or mobile application should be interactive and at the same time informative to increase user experience.

UX examples

If we consider using UX in a business model or creating new quality, we will find great examples in the travel industry. Companies like OYO and Airbnb changed the way people exploring the world by revolutionizing the world’s hotel management system. For this, they particularly focused on user experience (UX) by working on their experience design. We can also cite an example of Uber or Lyft. They targetted user experience and changed the way people travel via cabs.

Experience Design Principles

Even though experience design is very popular, not many designers know the core principles of it, which are as follows:

  • Focus on the user

This is the most essential principle of experience design but also the most popular mistake. What many designers do is focus more on making complex applications. Complex applications may attract other designers, but not the target audience or the users. Thus, applications should be user-friendly, easy to use, interactive, and informative.

  • Consistency

If you are building a website, all its pages should have the same design and functionality. The same goes for creating a consumer experience in real-life circumstances.

  • Accessibility

You should always remember to make your designs easy for everyone to use. It allows a better user experience, and many regulations are requiring you to provide equal access.

  • Usability testing

Consulting your users at the beginning of the design process is a very healthy practice. This will help you ensure that the interface and structure of your product are understandable and friendly to the target audience.

  • Focus on context

Nowadays, most people prefer browsing on their mobile phones rather than on PCs. Therefore you should design an application based on what kind of device will be used the most. Depending on the type of product you are designing, you should consider its essential aspects. For example, when designing an online store, you should remember what circumstances your user will be visiting your website. You might consider whether he will be looking for well-exposed brief information or more insightful longer descriptions. Is the photo an important aspect or should you start the page with the description of the goods?

5 step of Experience Design Process

How to explain User Experience Design?

  • Product definition: understand the context.
  • Product research: includes both user research and market research.
  • Analysis: draw insights from the data collected during product research.
  • Design: in this step, the actual design takes place.
  • Testing: team validates the product with end-users

To understand the depth and impact of experience design, it’s essential to explore how it integrates with and is supported by robust design systems. Experience design focuses on optimizing user interactions and ensuring a seamless, enjoyable experience. On the other hand, a design system provides a structured framework of reusable components and guidelines, which ensures consistency and efficiency in the design process. By leveraging a well-defined design system, designers can create cohesive and intuitive user experiences that align with the overarching goals of experience design. Experience design vs interface design

What is the difference between experience design and interface design?

User Interface design or UI design is the process designers use to build machine software interfaces that are easy to use. These include interfaces for computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices.

One important difference between experience design and interface design is that experience design focuses on optimizing the product for effective and enjoyable use. In contrast, interface design focuses more on the look and presentation of the product.

A user interface is an interaction between a user and a product. For example, the touchscreen of your smartphone responds with something whenever you touch it.

Tools and frameworks available for experience design

Experience design tools help you through each step discussed before in designing.

There are a wide number of tools available for experience design. Some of them include experience design Adobe, InVision Studio, Axure, Proto.io, Marvel, Figma, Balsamiq, etc.

Experience design frameworks help designers to take their products in the right direction while remaining productive.

Some frameworks available for experience design are:

  • Fogg’s behaviour model
  • Nir Eyal’s Hooked Model
  • Proficiency scale
